CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY

How to clean your Smith jewelry

It is recommended to gently clean your jewelry between wears with a jewelry polishing cloth or a microfibre cloth.

HOW TO CLEAN  GOLD VERMEIL and STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

STEP 1. MIX SOME DISH SOAP IN LUKEWARM WATER.

STEP 2. SOAK YOUR JEWELLERY IN THE WATER FOR 5 MINUTES.

STEP 3. USE A SOFT CLOTH (MICROFIBRE RECOMMENDED) OR YOUR FINGERS TO GENTLY POLISH THE SURFACE.

STEP 4. RINSE THE JEWELS IN WATER AND DRY THEM WITH A CLEAN SOFT CLOTH. DON'T USE PAPER TOWELS, AS THIS CAN SCRATCH THE SURFACE OF YOUR JEWELLERY.

NOTE. It is best to wash your silver by hand in warm, sudsy water as soon as possible after use. Rinse well in clear hot water and hand-dry immediately and thoroughly.

For silver that is tarnished, clean with a good quality silver polish and avoid "dip" polishes.

STERLING SILVER

Proper care ensures your sterling silver jewelry retains its shine and beauty for years to come. Here are some care instructions to keep in mind:

  1. Store properly: When not wearing your sterling silver jewelry, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Consider using a jewelry box or pouch to prevent scratching and tarnishing.

  2. Avoid exposure: Limit exposure to chemicals such as perfumes, lotions, hairspray, and household cleaners, as these can tarnish sterling silver over time. Remove your jewelry before swimming, showering, or participating in activities that involve contact with harsh chemicals.

  3. Clean regularly: To remove dirt and oils, gently wipe your sterling silver jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap and water solution, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh cleaners, as they can damage the metal.

  4. Tarnish prevention: Tarnishing is a natural process that occurs when sterling silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air. To prevent tarnishing, consider storing your jewelry with anti-tarnish strips or in a sealed container. You can also periodically polish your sterling silver pieces with a polishing cloth or silver polish to restore their shine.

By following these care instructions, you can enjoy your sterling silver jewelry for years to come, maintaining its beauty and luster for every occasion.

GOLD PLATED & GOLD VERMEIL

Taking care of gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry is essential to maintain its luster and prevent tarnishing. Here are some general care instructions:

  1. Keep it Dry: Avoid exposing gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry to water, moisture, and chemicals such as lotions, perfumes, and hairsprays. Remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, or engaging in activities that involve water.

  2. Store Properly: Store your gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry separately in a dry and cool place, away from direct sunlight. Consider storing each piece in a soft pouch or jewelry box to prevent scratches and tarnishing.

  3. Clean Gently: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe your gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry after each wear to remove any oils, sweat, or dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or jewelry cleaners, as they can damage the delicate gold layer.

  4. Avoid Abrasion: Be cautious while wearing gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry, as rough surfaces and abrasive materials can cause the gold layer to wear off over time. Remove your jewelry before engaging in activities such as exercising or cleaning.

By following these care instructions, you can help prolong the beauty and lifespan of your gold-plated and gold vermeil jewelry.
